The focus of this workshop will be on Kurt Anderson’s specialties: floral, figurative and portrait painting in oils. Through daily demonstrations and personal critiques Anderson will help you to energize your oil paintings with a naturalistic approach to color, brushwork and design.
His instruction is grounded in the classic atelier method, which emphasizes building skill upon skill. Emphasis will be placed on achieving vibrant color, capturing the “big look” (the broad masses of light that express the shapes you are seeing) and analyzing those shapes in term of gesture, expression and anatomy.
Students will create at least one new painting each day working from live models two of the days, and a floral arrangement one day.
We will paint from 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m daily.
