$425 includes model fee3 Day . Making a Portrait Painting Work
A good portrait is usually a well structured, expressive work of art, full of character, volume and good design. This class will stress the learning process to achieve this goal from basic proportions, structure, value and color relationships.
We will talk as much about creating a work of art as making a portrait. We will talk about enhancing shapes, values and colors to make your painting more compelling as well as what to leave out.
Painting a portrait is a process of getting the simple relationships right first and then developing those important relationships into a more finished painting. I encourage my students to loosen up, be brave, enjoy the process, have fun and work hard. We will work from live models with interesting faces and accessories to make the process more compelling!
Students should have some basic drawing and painting skills. I will give each student plenty of individual critiques.
Also, this workshop is not only for students that want to improve their portrait skills. It is for all students: landscape painters, still life painters, and wildlife painters.
I will explain and demonstrate how drawing the portrait teaches you proportion, shape, and perspective. These are essential skills necessary to paint any subject matter.
We will paint from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m daily.
