3 Day . Expressive Color and Brushwork

As landscape artists we all want to be able to mix the colors that we see but it’s more important to be able to paint the effects of what we see. We can’t duplicate the reality of nature with oil paint, but we can paint the effects of light and atmosphere when we have knowledge of mixing expressive color and applying it correctly.

In this workshop you will learn how to mix color that expresses the drama of what we are painting and use brushwork that shows more form and texture. Phil will demonstrate mixing color and using brushwork as well as give a lecture and slide show on how to benefit from studying other paintings.

The class will spend one day in the studio for painting exercises and demonstrations and 2 days in the field at different locations around Tucson painting a variety of subjects from mountains to southwest architecture.

We will paint from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m daily.
Transportation needed.
