5 Day . Painting the Portrait and the Landscape - Studio
In this workshop we will address the fundamentals of watercolor painting; color, technique, composition, and choosing a paintable subject based on one’s skill level. Stan will demonstrate the landscape and the portrait, using a variety of styles and approaches, from realism to impressionism to abstraction.
We will have a model and paint from life, for a half day. Students will have the option of painting from the instructors hand-outs, from their own photos (higher contrast photos are easier to paint), from their sketches or from their imagination. All painting styles are welcome, and all water mediums welcome. I will demonstrate egg tempera techniques.
Students should bring at least five to ten photos of subjects they might be interested in painting. Understanding design, eye movement, mood development and a continuity in one's body of work will be addressed with the more advanced students. Students also have the option of bringing one drawing or painting for a private individual critique.
We will paint from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m daily.
